Prock Ridge Farm has been raising Belted Galloway’s since 1977.  The first one being one that was won in a judging contest by their daughter at Union Fair.  Merle went on to match that animal with one.  This was the beginning of the Beltie herd.

Over the years the herd has grown to around forty head.  The farm not only has blacks but also is the proud owners of both duns and reds.  This has only been with selective breeding.  Loraine studies pedigrees that  she feels would improve the herd.   Also looking for different bloodlines.  The farm has very interesting  bloodlines.  The majority have been importing from all parts of Canada over the years.

One of the reasons the farm has been so successful is that it is a family run business.  Most of the family helps with all aspects of the farm. Everyone helps with the haying.  Showing up after work to help.  Always looking forward to the meal that awaits them once the haying is done for the day.

Brenda, who is acting manager, spends lots of time with the show stock and calves.  She can be found training the animals, working the hair coats, washing them.  She also does some of the computer work.  Every animal is put in the computer so that weight gains, hip heights and health information can be tracked.  She is a very important aspect of the farm.

Kevin and Brenda's three boys, Anthony, Devin, and Derek, have all been involved with 4H.  All have raised steers for the Fryeburg fair.  Anthony and Devin have been on the Maine 4H Beef Team and competed at The Big E in Springfield, Mass.  Devin is in his last year of 4H.  He is raising two Beltie steers this year.  One he is hoping to take to The Big E for the open show.

Then there is Lori who helps as much as she can around the farm.  Taking vacation from work to help show the animals and prepare them for show.  Her and Jim's son, Joe, is the other boy who is involved with the animals.  This will be his first year on the 4H Beef Team.  Then there is their daughter, Lauren, who loves working with animals.  She'll be a contender in a few years.

Having the farm run by the family makes it much more personal.  Everyone helps train and lead animals.  Most can be handled by anyone, even the younger kids.

The farm only sells animals that we want on the farm it self.  It is felt that if an animal doesn't make good breeding stock they will go for beef.  Everything that is sold is guaranteed to breed or be bred.  That is one thing we pride ourselves on is the quality of animals that we breed.

Our bloodlines have much to offer.   Excellent breeding stock and show stock available. Also available is semen by two of our bulls that are on site.  They are a red bull, Du Rapide Red King , and a black bull, AuDomaine Lorna Line.  Both have proven themselves with an excellent crop of  calves.

We welcome all visitors and always happy to show our herd.  They are animals that we are very excited about.  And while visiting check out the gift shop, The Belted Cow.  It offers lots of beautiful hand painted articles by Loraine.
